Helen Yandell was appointed Director of Springvale Monash Legal Service in March 2006.  She had previuosly worked as a community lawyer and educator at Western Suburbs Legal Service.  For the past 3 years she was also the Chairperson of the Federation of Community Legal Centres, the peak body for community legal centres in Victoria.  She combined this role with the Convenor of the Justice Initiatives Standing Group, a group that coordinates and oversees the justice policy work of the sector.

Prior to studying law, Helen worked as an adult educator, working with people from a range of cultural backgrounds. She has also spent many years working with people with disabilites in both education, accomodation and employment.  She also taught in TAFE colleges, training people to work in the disability sector and in youth services.
