In order to be eligible for the prize, applicants must submit:

  • a copy of a completed nomination form with supporting statement from the students’ supervisor as to the value of the publication; and
  • a copy of the nominated publication.

Applicants are strongly advised to supply any supporting materials where available, i.e. book reviews, referee’s report(s) and evidence of citations or impact.

Where a student has more than one supervisor, it is adequate that just one supervisor writes the supporting statement.

The supervisor’s statement should address the selection criteria.

A student may submit a separate nomination for each eligible published work.

In the case of jointly authored work, the nomination must clearly indicate which author is responsible for which sections of the publication.  The percentage of contribution of the author to be nominated for the Monash Law School Students’ Publication Prize must be at least 50%.

If two authors are both Monash Law students at the time the work was accepted for publication, a joint nomination will be accepted and students are able to share the prize.  The co-author who is not a Monash Law student at the time the work was accepted for publication is not eligible to share the prize.
