Higher Degrees by Research (HDR)

HDR means a higher degree by research which is a Doctorate or Masters course for which at least 2/3 of the student load for the course is required as research work.

Monash is one of the Group of Eight, Australia’s leading research intensive universities. At Monash Law School we are dedicated to excellence in research and take great pride in our record of first rate contributions to legal research from both our academic staff and our higher degree by research (HDR) students.

We regard our HDR students as the life-blood of the academic community, as the scholars of the future will be recruited from their ranks. As such we aim to ensure our research students receive quality legal research training.

We offer five higher degrees by research:

Master of Laws (Research) (LLM (Research))
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD)
Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
Doctor of Laws (LLD)
