Monash is one of the few clinical law schools in Australia. Over 30 years ago, Monash developed the first clinical legal training program for law students at the Springvale Monash Legal Service. Today the Law School also operates the Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service. This tradition of clinical practice and investigation of professional standards continues in the research acumen of the law school with research in the areas of clinical teaching and techniques, legal education, and developing positive solutions to encourage ethical behaviour.

In addition, many researchers in this cluster have interests and expertise in the development of legal practice beyond the clinic including the history of vexatious litigants, ethics of large law firms, assessing lawyer ethics, family law, corporate accountability and decision making, law teacher's professional develoment, normative responsibility in criminal justice, and private justice schemes.
