Entry requirements and Intakes

Law Graduate: Successful completion of a recognised law degree.

Non-Law Graduate: Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in any discipline, with a minimum credit average.

Qualified Overseas Practitioners

If you are an overseas practitioner wanting to get admitted to practice law in Australia, you should contact the governing body in the state in which you intend to practise in to determine the requirements for your admission.

In the State of Victoria, the governing body is known as the Council of Legal Education (COLE). If you have been admitted to practice in your country, COLE will assess your qualifications and determine which areas of study you need to undertake in order to qualify for practise in the State of Victoria.  They will advise you of their assessment in a formal letter.

Monash School of Law offers single unit subject enrolment through our Monash JD program, primarily for admissions in to the State of Victoria. All our core Monash JD units are endorsed by COLE as meeting the areas of knowledge required for admission in Victoria.

Upon submission of your application form, you must provide:

  • the original or original certified copy of your COLE letter (stating the areas of law you are required to undertake in order to be admitted to practice in Victoria),
  • original or original certified copy of your law degree transcripts and
  • evidence of your citizenship status.

Single Unit Applications

Applications must be submitted approximately one month prior to the commencement of the relevant unit to ensure a place.  Apply here

Note: International students are not usually eligible to undertake single unit enrolments due to visa restrictions.
