Mr Julian Burnside, QC

Julian Burnside, QC completed Economics and Law at Monash University before becoming a barrister in 1976 and taking silk in 1989. During his outstanding legal career, Julian has defended Alan Bond, interrogated John Laws and Alan Jones in the ‘cash-for-comment’ inquiry, acted for the Maritime Union against Patrick Stevedores in the 1998 Waterfront dispute, and acted for the Tampa asylum seekers. He is President of Liberty Victoria, and has acted pro bono in many human rights cases, in particular concerning the treatment of refugees. Julian founded the Victorian Society for Computers and Law. In 2004, Julian was the recipient of the Monash University Distinguished Alumni Award.
