Student Mobility Fund

As part of the Monash Passport the Law Faculty is committed to expanding and enhancing the international learning experiences of our students by encouraging and supporting student participation in all International Programs

The Law Faculty Student Mobility Fund (SMF) has been developed to provide financial assistance to those students who have been accepted into the following Student Mobility Programs:

Internship Grants

Students undertaking a Faculty Managed, External or Student Organised Internship may apply for an Internship Grant to offset the cost of undertaking the Internship.

Funding is dependent upon available funds and is allocated according to the type of internship and their regional location. A maximum of $2500.00 may be granted.

To be eligible for an Internship grant students must:-

  • be successful in obtaining a Faculty Managed, External or Student Organised Internship
  • be enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws (or any Bachelor of Laws double degree) or Postgraduate coursework degree in the Faculty of Law at Monash University and have at least one unit of their law degree to complete at the end of the internship program;
  • at the time of the internship have completed at least one full time equivalent year of law (48 credit points) and have achieved a minimum credit (60%) average across their law studies;
  • have the ability to complete the internship without compromising law studies or examination periods.
  • be available on return to commit to marketing and promotional activities, including future use of profiles and reports in marketing material.
  • have not previously received a Law Faculty Internship Grant (students who have had unsuccessful applications may apply again); and
  • have the ability to fund all associated internship costs in the event that any grant provided does not cover all costs.

International Students

Due to visa restrictions international students are not currently permitted to undertake internships during semester.  However, they may be eligible for internships that fall outside of the semester dates and may therefore apply for SMF funding if they meet the above eligibility criteria.

Student Mobility Equity Grants

Student Mobility Equity grants  are available to assist students with all Student Mobility Programs listed above, and are in addition to Internship or Discretionary Grants. Grants are dependent upon available funds and are allocated to eligible students on the basis of need.

How to apply:

Student Mobility Equity Grant Application

Discretionary Grants

The Director International may consider requests for funding that fall outside the Internship and Grant criteria but which are consistent with the Faculty’s strategic objectives in relation to student mobility.

How to apply:

Submissions should be addressed to the International Programs Officer.  The email must outline your case for funding including:

  • the nature of the program to be supported and how it relates to your Law studies
  • amount of funding requested
  • how the proposed grant would be used to offset program costs

Students will be notified of the outcome in writing.
