Fees and Financial Assistance

Fees

Monash University Law Students

All subjects are CSP based for CSP paying students.
All full fee paying students will be charged full fees accordingly.

Cross-Institutional Students (Australia only)

Students from other Australian Universities will be admitted as cross-institutional students and will be liable to pay full-fees per unit. 
In 2008 the cost of each unit is $2,690 per unit.

Partner University Students (International Partners)

The following universities are recognised as 'Partners' of the Prato Law Program.
York University, Canada
Tel Aviv University, Israel
University of Firenze, Italy
Georgian American University, Republic of Georgia
American University, USA
Universite' di Fribourg, Switzerland
Universite' Paris XI
Arizona State University
University of Haifa, Israel


Students from these universities pay an administration fee of AUD$300 to participate in the program, regardless of the amount of units taken.  For more information contact the coordinator of the Program at your university or email external.programs@law.monash.edu.au


 

Financial Assistance (Monash Students Only)

Monash Abroad-Travel Grants

Monash Abroad will provide financial assistance in the form of travel grants to Monash students participating in the Prato program.  The 2007 grant allocation are as follows:

Unit Enrolment Grant Allocation
Overall unit enrolment of 18-24 credit points (3 - 4 units) $2500.00
Overall units teaching period goes for more than 4 weeks with enrolment
of 6-12 credit points (1-2 units)
$1000.00
Overall units teaching period goes for less than 4 weeks with enrolment
of 6 - 12 credit points (1 - 2 units)
$500.00

Note: The intensive Equity (LAW4169) unit is not considered a Prato unit for the purpose of the Monash Abroad Grant.

Monash Abroad will directly deposit the money into your bank account within a month of the program start date.  You should be able to expect this money in March 2008.

W.J. & G.M. Goldsack Scholarship

A Scholarship has been created to provide financial assistance to students who wish to undertake the study of Trial Practice and Advocacy at Prato.

The award will be made to one or more students and will total $3,000 in any single year. 

To be eligible for the scholarship students must:

  • Be a Monash University student;
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in advocacy (for example involvement/participation in mooting competitions, witness examination competitions or debating societies; involvement in public advocacy).
  • Have a sound academic record;
  • Demonstrate genuine financial need, outlining how the scholarship could meet shortfall for study in Prato;

To apply for the Scholarship, complete the application form and return it to Student Services as soon as possible.

Law Prato Equity Bursary

To be eligible applicants must be:
- an Australia citizen or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or a permanent humanitrian visa, or
- an International student, and
- enrolled in an approved undergraduate law degree at Monash University and
- have been accepted into the Prato Law Program.

University Financial Aid

The university will loan student up to $3000.00 through  Financial Aid.  The loan must be paid back by the time you graduate and carries no interest. Contact Health, Wellbeing and Development Student Financial Aid Service on (03) 9905 3156 for further information and to arrange an appointment
to see a Student Advisor about a loan.


You may also wish to use the new  OS Help introduced by the government, where you may be eligible for a a further $5000 in financial assistance towards the Prato program in the form of a loan.

Centrelink


The program is considered a Monash University course and therefore full time students will continue to receive payments.  Letters showing you are a full time student (3 units in first semester) will be sent out to all students who have indicated on the application form that they require a letter for Austudy or Youth Allowance.   Note:  the intensive Equity unit is considered as a first semester unit for the purpose of Centrelink funding.
