Requirements for registration as a patent and trade marks attorney

The Faculty of Law teaches all units which are accredited by the Professional Standards Board for Patent and Trade Marks Attorneys to satisfy the knowledge requirements for registration as a Patent Attorney or a Trade Marks Attorney. 

Students seeking patent attorney registration need to complete requirements for 9 topics (topics A-I).

Students applying for seeking trade mark attorney registration only must satisfy requirements for Topic Groups A, B, C, D.

Students should contact the Professional Standards Board for Patent and Trade Marks Attorneys for information about exemptions and required application procedures.

Note: There has been some restructuring of these units in 2012 to remove Topic Group B from LAW7224 Trade mark practice and include it in a new unit LAW7477 Legal process and professional conduct.
