Michael Chin
Master of Laws (Juris Doctor)

"Monash Law School is consistently acknowledged as one of the finest law schools in Australia, and in the world. The eminent list of internationally-renowned experts invited to speak in this law school, form the catalyst of excellence that enriches the intellectual vitality of the faculty. I believe that the Monash JD Program presents the best outward and international focus for law, which is adapted to Australia’s environment. The contents of the JD Program include electives such as privacy and information security, international banking and finance, comparative banking law, corporate law and international investments law. These subjects are paramount to my goals of studying law in Australia, and central to my future interest in Asia. I sincerely believe that the standard of the Monash Law School is equivalent, if not better, than the major law schools overseas."

Michael Chin was awarded the 2012 Prime Minister's Australia Asia Award. Read about Michael's achievements.

"Prior to commencing the JD I was working full time as a web content editor. I chose the Monash JD due to its reputation, flexibility and quality of lecturers. As I work in the city, the location of the postgraduate chambers is easy to get to and the classes are small so that it allows you to develop friendships. I have had access to great lecturers who are the top in their field, I also have the opportunity to network and be involved in a wider range of activities due to studying law that I may not have otherwise had (i.e Australian Law Students Association working party member). Monash Law School has enabled me to secure an ongoing casual paralegal role within the
Technology, Media and Telecommunications group in Allens Arthur Robinson, a top tier law firm".

"I manage a planning/risk management team and chose the Monash Law School Juris Doctor because the course allowed me to study part time so I could balance work commitments and my young family. Some of the lecturers within the program are practitioners (eg solicitors and barristers) and it's really helpful to get insights into practice while studying. In May, I attended a short course in Prato, Italy. My wife and three children came too. It was great to have a study opportunity while on holiday and the course quality was excellent with two
Federal Court judges attending and sharing the insights into the judicial process".

"I chose Monash because of the flexible JD course and emphasis on building on Graduates' current knowledge learned from undergraduate courses. Student membership to the LIV has been of great benefit which is exposing me to the Legal ‘industry' via publications and updates on current findings. My goal after the course is to practise law within the commercial domain".
