Change of stream or tutorial

Who can apply?

After you have been assigned a stream or tutorial for your Law units by Allocate+, you may find that you need to change. Anyone is eligible to change, either online via Allocate+ once it is in adjustment mode or, if this is not successful, but submitting a form.

How do I go about submitting a form?

The form can be collected from the Student Services counter and must be submitted via the box provided, or posted to:

Student and Academic Services
Faculty of Law
Building 12
Monash
University
Vic 3800

The form can also be downloaded here one week prior to semester start until the end of Week 4.

Do I need to provide evidence?

You will need to provide appropriate evidence according to your situation. If the evidence is a letter from an employer it must be typed and not hand written, must have the company letter head with logo, signed by an appropriate Manager and must include contact details of the employer. The faculty will only accept original letters and not copies.

How long should I wait and how will I know when the change has been applied?

Application forms are usually processed within 24 hours of submission. Sometimes the application may take several days if there is no room to allocate into. You will be emailed with the outcome of your request.

Is there a waiting list?

This applies if the quota for a stream or the capacity of the teaching venue has been reached. As a result you will receive an email stating you will be placed on a waiting list until a place is available. If a place does not become available, you will be notified via email to choose another stream. You can at any stage withdraw the application. This must be done in writing via email to enquiries@law.monash.edu.au.

What if the stream/tutorial clashes with another activity and there is no other option available?

If the change to a stream/tutorial results in a clash, the onus is on the student to be able to keep up with lectures or tutorial. This means one of the activities (usually the lecture) must be recorded. You must also answer yes to accepting the clash otherwise the form will not be processed. Please note that any assessed tutorials MUST be attended as the overall assessment includes tutorial participation.

Alternatively, you may request authorisation from the lecturer/tutor (which may not be forthcoming). It is necessary for the approval to be obtained before the form can be submitted or it will not be processed. This only applies if the teaching venue itself has not reached full capacity.

Deadline for submitting application

Applications will not be accepted under any circumstances after week 4 of the semester. Students MUST have their timetable finalised by then.

Important information

All sections are required to be completed and any appropriate evidence provided with the application. Students must sign the form or the application will not be processed. Please note that submitting an application to change stream does not guarantee you a place in the requested stream or tutorial group.
