Clinical legal education

As a clinical law school, the faculty is committed to providing the highest standard of legal education and training. As such, our students have the opportunity to obtain hands on practical experience through our two community legal centres.

Clinical Legal Education

Developed more than 30 years ago, the Monash Law clinical legal education program for students was the first of its kind in Australia. Under expert supervision, students work with real clients and cases, learning vital skills relating to the practice of law while providing an important service to the community.

In 2009 / 2010 the following units in the Clinical Legal Education program are offered in three separate clinical periods (CPs):

Application Forms:

To apply, simply download the relevant application form below and submit to Student Services, Law Faculty, Building 12, Monash University.  Application closing dates are listed on each form and census dates are listed below. It is only at the beginning of each clinical period that the application forms for the next CP will be available.

General Information:

Fees for all units are according to student's current fee status ie. CSP or Full Fee

In selecting applications, priority is given to those students who are closest to completion of the LLB or Law component of their degree.

Successful applicants will be notified by email at which time further instructions will be given.

Important census dates 2010

Clinical Period (CP) 1
23rd December: last day to discontinue CP1 units without ‘WD' showing on academic record.
5th February: last day for discontinuation of CP1 units with ‘WD' showing on academic record. CP 1 units discontinued after this date will show as a ‘Fail’.
Results are released July.

Clinical Period (CP)2
24th April:
last day to discontinue CP 2 units without ‘WD' showing on academic record.
4th June: last day for discontinuation of CP 2 units with ‘WD' showing on academic record. CP 2 units discontinued after this date will show as a ‘Fail’.
Results are released September

Clinical Period (CP)3
24th August: last day to discontinue CP 3 units without ‘WD' showing on academic record.
1st October: last day for discontinuation of CP 3 units with ‘WD' showing on academic record. CP 3 units discontinued after this date will show as a ‘Fail’.
Results are released in mid-January.
