Castan Centre In-House Internship Program

The in-house internship program provides community-minded Monash Law students the opportunity to assist the centre in developing and implementing its suite of human rights programs. In particular, interns may be required to:

  • Assist Castan Centre Directors with research on human rights projects.
  • Write articles for Castan Centre newsletters.
  • Create blogs on human rights news stories
  • Assist with preparation of funding proposals.
  • Undertake other writing and research tasks.
  • Help to organise events such as public lectures and the annual human rights conference.
  • Undertake a modest amount of administrative work.

Non-Monash students may also apply for in-house internships at any time.  Unfortunately, slots for non-Monash students are only open during periods where the centre has a high workload. 

Deadline for applications 

Applications for second semester must be submitted by 5pm Friday 25 May 2011There will not be interviews for the internships and students are expected to write a cover letter of no more than one page.

Internship intake periods

Students may apply for the following intake:

  • Part-time internships - between 23 July 2012 and 19 October 2012 (Semester 2, 2012)

Students can intern 1 day per week for 11 weeks over the second semester.

Selection criteria

To be considered for a Castan Centre In-House Internship, students must:

  • Be currently studying the Bachelor of Laws (or any Bachelor of Laws double degree) or JD degree at Monash University.
  • Have completed International Human Rights (LAW4155) or Human Rights in Australian Law (LAW4172), or Overview of international human rights law (LAW7026) or their equivalent (must be a law subject) by the start of the internship. This requirement is NOT negotiable and having taken International Law or International Humanitarian or International Criminal law will not suffice.
  • Have achieved a minimum credit (60%) average across their law studies.

Interns will be selected on the strength of their CV and cover letter.  There will be no interviews.
