Eligibility Criteria
In order to apply for this program and obtain funding through the Student Mobility Fund you must meet following eligibility criteria:
- All Global Internships except Oxfam Australia are open to students enrolled in any Monash Law degree by coursework (LLB, any JD course, any LLM), whether full-time or part-time.
- The Oxfam Australia internship is only open to Monash Law students undertaking an LLB or any full-time JD course.
- At the time of the internship, you must have completed at least one full time equivalent year of law and have achieved a minimum credit (60%) average across your law studies.
- For all internships (except Plan Australia), on the completion of the internship have at least one unit of your degree to complete. This is a requirement for all Castan Centre Global Internships EXCEPT Plan Australia and is not negotiable. Students who are applying for the Plan Australia internship do not need to have at least one unit of your degree to complete upon the completion of the internship. Students who have completed all the units of their law degree ARE eligible to apply for the Plan Australia internship only.

Have successfully completed the following compulsory units by the start date of the internship. Please note, the postgraduate equivalent units will also be accepted. (you must have completed ALL the compulsory units prior to starting the internship - this is not negotiable) :

Introduction to Legal Reasoning (LAW1101) (for JD: LAW 7212 - Australian Legal System)

Law in Society (LAW1102) OR Research and Writing (LAW1104) (for JD: LAW 7079 - Legal research and problem solving)

Criminal Law (BOTH LAW 3301 AND 3302) (for JD: Law 7264 - Principles of criminal law and procedure)

Contract Law (BOTH LAW 2101 AND 2102) (for JD: LAW 7428 - Contract A AND LAW 7429 - Contract B, OR LAW 7265 - Principles of Contract Law)

Torts Law (BOTH LAW 2201 AND 2202) (for JD: LAW 7266 - Principles of torts)

Constitutional Law (LAW 3200, OR 3201) (for JD: LAW 7268 - Principles of constitutional law)

Have the ability to complete the internship without compromising law studies or examination periods.

Be available on return to commit to marketing and promotional activities, including future use of profiles and reports in marketing material (subject to negotiation with the Faculty Marketing Manager).

Have not previously received faculty funding through the Student Mobility Fund.

Be willing to write a report on their internship as well as submit a personal profile to the Castan Centre for use on its website. Interns may also be asked to create and run a blog, online journal or other social media forum utilising photos, video and/or text to document their experiences during and following the completion of the internship.

Have a demonstrated interest in human rights, either through a history of community involvement or the completion of at least one of the following subjects (or similar) by the start date of the Internship:
