'The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: A New International Order for the Human Rights of Users and Survivors of Psychiatry'

Tina Minkowitz is founder of the Center for the Human Rights of Users and Survivors of Psychiatry.  As a psychiatric survivor, human rights lawyer and Co-chair of the World Network of Users and Survivors of Psychiatry, she played a key role in the drafting of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).  Ms. Minkowitz has given expert presentations to the United Nations and numerous governments and NGOs around the world, which has included advising them on draft legislation in light of the CRPD.  She is the author of “The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Right to be Free from Nonconsensual Psychiatric Interventions,” which includes arguments on torture and ill-treatment, and has presented with the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture on this subject.  She is visiting Australia as a keynote speaker for the national conference of the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations in Melbourne on May 28-29.
