Australian Society of Legal Philosophy

Annual Conference 2008

The Society's Annual Conference was held at the Law School, University of Melbourne, from Friday June 13 until Sunday June 15, 2008.

International speakers included Professor Carol Gould, Director of the Center for Global Ethics and Professor of Philosophy and Government at George Mason University, and Professors Heidi Hurd and Michael Moore, joint Directors of the Program in Law and Philosophy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The conference included a book symposium devoted to Scott Veitch's recent "Law and Irresponsibility on the Legitimation of Human eSuffering" (Hart Publishing, 2007). The commentators were Prof Martin Krygier, Prof Andrew Goldsmith, Prof Ngaire Naffine, and Dr Patrick Emerton.

The conference also included a celebration of Professor Tom Campbell's 70th birthday and of his enormous contribution over many years to the Society, and to legal philosophy in Australia.
