Our mission

The objectives of Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service (MOLS) are:

  • To increase the availability and accessibility of legal advice and legal assistance to the people of the surrounding community and to people attending and working at Monash University.
  • To cooperate with Monash University's Faculty of Law in the provision of legal and social education, and in particular to encourage and permit law students to participate in the operation of MOLS on a voluntary basis under professional supervision, so far as is consistent with the other objects and purposes.
  • To operate a free legal service in conjunction with other community services.
  • To promote and provide community legal education and to encourage self-help in conjunction with other community services in the area.
  • To cooperate with public and private legal aid services and the legal profession.
  • To bring to the attention of the appropriate authorities and the public, matters affecting the legal rights of people in the area.
  • To initiate and participate in law and social reform.
  • To collect information relating to and conduct research into the administration of justice and the provision of legal services to the community.
